(17,136 posts)The Bellamy salute starts with an outstretched arm, palm down, but during the second phrase, to the flag, the palm is turned upward for the remainder of the Pledge.
After explaining the background, Webb instructed the class to rise and give the salute while reciting the Pledge.

Yet the teacher had the class give the salute? It sounds like the teacher didn't understand his own lesson.
Or he was living his Nazi dream!

On a more serious note, this tracks uncomfortably closely to my own high school days in the mid-70s. When the administration or a faculty member screwed up, they were never held nearly as accountable as a student who reported the screw up.

(16,085 posts)Granted, I was not raised in Alabama, but we never saluted the flag. Hand over heart. Even IF it was once done.. its not acceptable..at all.
