Family: Bob Saget died after accidental blow to the head
LOS ANGELES (AP) Bob Sagets death last month stemmed from an accidental blow to the head, his family said in a statement Wednesday.
The comedian and Full House star was found dead Jan. 9 in a Florida hotel room. Hed performed in the area the night before as part of a stand-up tour.
The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma, the Saget family said. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.

(89,239 posts)but in that case they knew when it happened although she felt mostly ok right after it happened and that is probably what happened with Bob Saget so he just went to sleep . I wonder if they could have saved him if he had got it checked out right away .

(26,308 posts)With elderly people like Saget the protocol is usually a CT. Much easier for an older person to develop a bleed.
We were recently discussing this with my Physician Assistant niece. She said as the brain naturally shrinks/atrophies with age it makes tears easier.
When my partner worked for a big hospital near Wrigley in Chicago, he used to get called in at all hours for drunk kids hitting their heads. I thought it was ridiculous back then. Now that Ive seen a handful of people die from what seems like minor head trauma it makes sense.

(44,972 posts)a minor head bump (nothing dramatic like in Natasha Richardson's case). But this minor head bump caused a brain bleed.

(26,308 posts)The cause could be 80/20 with 80% of the damage caused by the fall and maybe landing on his ass causing a tear. With 20% caused by hitting his head on the edge of the tub or wall or sink.
My niece was saying older person fall = watch for brain bleed. It doesnt even have to involve actual head trauma. Saget was on the lower end of old but the point is a bad jolting fall can cause the brain bits to pull away from the attachments and cause a bleed.

(50,528 posts)This sounds funny, but if he slipped in the tub, fell backwards and hit his head on something, his butt would also be bruised.

(19,558 posts)She fell and "bumped" her head "a bit" and next thing I knew (luckily she was living with me) one side of her face was sagging. We were so lucky she got help in time.

(5,291 posts)I awoke to my wife calling my name, and my thoughts were:
Why is the bed so hard?
What am I doing on the floor?, and
Ow!
I had apparently passed out on my way back from the bathroom, having bounced my face on the sink, scraped my back against things that broke my fall, and bruised my tailbone.
No cause was ever found, but I was on a heart monitor for a week, had a eeg and a cat scan (they never did anything about the chipped bone just below my right eye socket).
I proudly tell people they looked into my brain and found nothing.

(68,455 posts)car for example. But unless you take a fall or someone hits you how do you hit yourself on the back of your head...there is no evidence of a fall that would do it...could someone have hit him? It just seems odd to me. Although, I am a murder mystery aficionado so I am always interested in that sort of thing. In fact, as an aside watch Jack Reacher on Amazon...so good.

(18,497 posts)But hard to imagine something like that being fatal.
Unless he was on blood thinners or something which can cause excessive bleeding, especially if it was internal it would not be noticed.

(16,058 posts)I've slammed the back of my head slipping on ice, though I doubt that was an issue in Florida.

(68,455 posts)in any of the rooms, I stayed in...my flight was delayed. And if he fell in the shower or somewhere else...there would likely be bruising...seems odd to me. But who knows.

(14,061 posts)Worth a trip to the ER or urgent care to get checked out by people who know what to look for, and know if theres any reason for concern.

(24,391 posts)every time you bonk your head? Is it just more of a thing if youre older? There are some instances like car accidents that would be obvious but how hard would it have to be to cause serious trauma that could kill you?
