Flint schools unveil Elon Musk-funded water fountains

FLINT, MI -- Flint students will drink from clean water fountains for the first time since 2016 today after hydration systems, funded by The Elon Musk Foundation, were unveiled at the district’s schools.

Before the water crisis, no state or federal regulators were paying attention to the water in schools unless it was well water, Sullivan said. Now, with these filters, students and staff can confidently hydrate knowing they are safe doing so.

Elon Musk visited Flint Community Schools in March 2019 after donating $480,000 to fund the filtration systems and another $423,000 to buy laptops for Flint middle schoolers.

Spottsville said he no longer has to bring water bottles from home since he can fill up at school. He doesn’t worry about the summer heat as much anymore.
“It feels amazing to have clean water as an option now,” Spottsville said.
