Windsor mayor signals police may soon 'physically remove' Ambassador Bridge protesters

Ambassador Bridge links Detroit, MI, USA and Windsor, ON, Canada. A quarter of all trade between the two countries crosses that bridge

(Detroit Free Press) After four days of truck protests that shut down the Ambassador Bridge, one of North American's biggest commercial gateways, an end may be in sight.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens signaled Thursday that he hoped for a peaceful resolution but was preparing to use police reinforcements to remove the protesters, who he said were trespassing, if they did not disperse on their own soon.

"A short time ago," he said, "Windsor City Council met and had authorized that an injunction be sought from Superior Court to bring about an end to this illegal occupation."

He was joined by business association representatives, and in clear terms said the protest "must come to an end." In addition, speaking directly to anyone thinking of joining the group to reinforce, he said: "You are not welcome here."

In addition, Matt Moroun, chairman of the Detroit International Bridge Co., which owns the privately held span, said the blockade "cannot continue any longer." .............(more)

I'm fairly tolerant of these kinds of protest, even if I don't agree with the reasons. But people need to be given wide latitude in bringing attention to their issues/causes. However, they have gotten their attention, people are aware, and now it's time to not FORCE people to pay attention to them, but to ATTRACT attention to themselves.

When people did "sit ins" the institutions could work around them. Here, they are blocking everyone from moving forward.

In general, these people support laws that allow them to mow down others who block “their roads.” This is not a protest, at best it’s extortion, at worst it’s terrorism.

Imagine if black citizens had blockaded US cities for four days to protest police violence.

Send in the Gazpacho Police!! They be cold!!

Why on earth do they need a court injunction before doing what should have been done days ago??

law enforcement is far too slow or non-existent for white folk and unjustly swift for POC and/or the poor. DO SOMETHING to these paid scofflaws, to Trump, to Trump’s henchmen.

If this was a BLM protest they would have blown them to pieces 30 minutes after it started.

. . . the Canadian Army has Cobra and Apache attack helicopter gunships that spew out thousands of rounds per minute. And I'm certain the Canadian Army has M1A1 Abrams tanks -- a tank round will turn an 18-wheeler into scrap.

So what's the problem?

Would probably be a bad idea, not to mention pretty much applying the death penalty to blocking a road.

It’s a political action, most likely extortion. Hold the supply chain hostage.

Why is anyone allowed to shut down a bridge that is a major entry point between 2 countries or DAYS on end? I don't get it.

Why was this allowed to go on for even ONE day, much less FOUR? I don't get it.

What is up with this:

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens signaled Thursday that he hoped for a peaceful resolution but was preparing to use police reinforcements to remove the protesters, who he said were trespassing, if they did not disperse on their own soon.

They're "preparing" to have the protesters removed by police? What's to prepare for? Just DO it.

I feel like there's a big chunk of information missing here or something, because none of this makes any damned sense. What am I missing?

I. Don't. Get. It.

put in place to protect health and life? I just don't get this. It makes no sense.

The oligarchs must be terrified to whip people into a frenzy over mandates that protect health and life and what fools they are to buy into it.
