Not a high profile lineup, but the panel discussion should be pretty interesting considering this week's news...

I’ve been watching Bill Maher for years. I’m just disappointed he has become so anti mask and anti Covid protections.

Given the hospitalization rate, even in my rural Northeastern county, the last thing we need is to reduce protections now. Bill may not have experienced symptoms and I know he resented the lockdown that curtailed his comedy tour, but in areas of this country people are still getting sick and dying.

I don't watch too much on HBO, mainly Bill Maher and John Oliver (who is finally back 2/20), but the other day I ran across a biography of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar which was really compelling and I recommend that highly.

I figure between "Real Time" and the occasional theatrical release that I'll get my money's worth.

My work partner was responsible for Cinemax since the schedules arrived at the same time. HBO has improved a whole lot with new original programming, but back then they showed so many old movies (like Bob Hope!) that when my aunt was deciding between them I told her to go with Cinemax...

where I went to college. $9.99 a month. Came with TBS and three VHF stations from Columbus. I lived off campus by then. I remember a lot of that programming. Despite the “primitive” beginnings— and Bob Hope — it was still magical.

And that's impressive, sounds like a terrific package for the time. I think I was responsible for TBS back then, too. There were only 2 of us with a lot of channels to cover. My work partner was male, but he knew nothing about sports, so I covered those, like ESPN, but we divided the movie channels. And my favorite at the time was AMC, that was the one I watched at home, since I was also a fan of the old movies.

It's about a woman from small town Kansas (played by comedienne Bridget Everett) who returns home to help her sister and parents. She finds friendship with fellow outcasts in the world of rural America. It's really smart, funny and heartwarming without being sappy.
