(CNN)Republican attorneys general in three states filed a federal lawsuit on Thursday challenging President Joe Biden's move to raise the minimum wage for federal contractors to $15 an hour.

The case -- filed on behalf of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi -- argues that Biden did not have the authority to issue the policy. The lawsuit says, "President Biden chose to ignore the will of our federal legislators and instead forced a raise in the minimum wage through executive fiat."

"Through leveraging the disproportionate bargaining power of the federal government, Defendants have decided to coerce federal contractors into abiding by a policy that Congress does not endorse, potentially affecting hundreds of thousands of businesses that employ as much as one-fifth of the entire U.S. labor force," the lawsuit said.

The states allege the move was an unconstitutional usurpation of legislative power and that it is an unconstitutional exercise of the government's spending power. The states also contend that the federal contractor minimum wage raise ran afoul of administrative law.

They want to destroy the federal government.

The policy affects federal contractors; what’s the injury to the state governments. This ought to get thrown out on its face.

The federal rate? The states and local governments don’t pay the salaries of federal workers, do they?

I agree it’s for federal contractors and this may not stand but really? $15 an hour? Why do his except they’re red states n it’s Biden? Why would anyone not want people to make a living wage n $15 an hour is too much?

I love how a Democrat POTUS is clearly abusing his power--getting things accomplished "through executive fiat" while a Republican one, such as TFG clearly really abuses his power and executive orders but--no problem.

I can tell you that my pay is not linked to a certain minimum wage. The company I work for would not hire anyone at such a low wage, as it is not cost effective for them.

Also, I really don't know how the contracts work, but I am fairly certain that contract awards are not prorated to the average compensation for the area a company is paying it's workers in.
