CALERA, Ala. (ABC3340) A modified firearm is off the street after Calera AL police officers noticed someone acting strange.
The Calera Police Department says the firearm, which is a .22 caliber bolt action rifle that has been modified into a handgun, appears to be functional.
Officers approached a person who was acting strange in a neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. The person ran from officers, but was later located at a gas station. It was then discovered that he had the firearm and is a convicted felon with two active arrest warrants from separate cities.
"Im proud of our officers for actively patrolling our neighborhoods and preventing crimes. This happened at a time when we are extremely short staffed. Convicted felons, drug dealers and gang members should not have firearms regardless of the quality."

Not the most, um...impressive example of home gunsmithing I've ever seen.

(5,548 posts)Lots to take in there but the most shocking part is the lack of a trigger guard. Wouldn't want to put that in my pants.

He may simply be really dumb. In any case, a knife would be far more effective than this, um...thing.

(9,636 posts)A single-shot, single-action non standard issue modified firearm. Just like the firearms in use when the Second Amendment was written. And, from the looks of it, just as effective.

(2,971 posts)It at least has sights, a trigger guard, and fires an effective projectile!

(9,636 posts)The safety and quality of a .22 cartridge and the ingenious incorporation of a laser pointer more than make up for the bells and whistles of a well made flint lock gun. And I doubt that the contraption was intended for self defense anyway. More likely for shooting domestic vermin. Cats are way more expensive than bullets these days, you know...

members should not have firearms regardless of the quality." Sounds a lot like pointy-headed librul gun control. The Calera PD spokesperson may soon be out of a job.
