Putin is crazy like a fox and that is extremely scary!

(3,492 posts)People rally around the President only if its a Republican. Theyll drag President Biden to the moon and back if we end up in some kind of conflict over this.
If Al Gore was rightly allowed to take office and 9/11 still somehow happened, there wouldnt be any of the unity or come together moments most people had with Dubya. The Republicans would have been blaming and attacking him before the buildings fell down.
This wont help the President at all. And the liberal media will make sure of it.

(12,792 posts)but this may also serve as a wedge to divide moderates from the Far Right in the Senate. It could be a come-to-jesus moment for Republicans to decide whether they support our allies in Europe, or whether they side with the Authoritarians.

(6,526 posts)I don't see how we can just protect NATO countries and watch Ukraine get swallowed up. I like the fact that their generals told Russia that Ukraine would fight back to every last citizen, but I believe it will be over in 3 days or less.
Putin is pretty good at psychological warfare, and he has already presoftened up our thinking in that he will try to waltz in, all the while complaining of NATO aggression, and making us cautionary. Once he's in there, he won't leave without outside intervention from NATO. And, that's not going to happen. The time for NATO to interfere with the invasion is in the first 3 days.

IMO, China is not his reliable ally because they want him to distract the US while they take Taiwan, they don't care about politics over Ukraine because that isn't in their long game. They'd love to see him get tangled up with NATO because he's more a disruptive force than someone who is building something that will be stable and possibly either an ally or a competitor.
He has no allies other than other small fry dictators that he supports. And what will they do when they see him struggle?
He would be better served to try to capture Ukraine via elections, getting a pro-Russia government back in place. This stunt he's pulling isn't helping with that, though...
