"I hope that people will finally come to realize that there is only one 'race' - the human race - and that we are all members of it."-Margaret Atwood

Get Together
Love is but a song we sing
Fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right no
Some may come and some may go
We will surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass
...
If you hear the song I sing
You will understand (listen!)
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at your command

(17,911 posts)The difference between different-colored people is negligible. We've migrated and interbred for thousands of years, so our differences in color and other superficial characteristics are insignificant. We can breed without any problem and our offspring can also breed easily. The differences in human color are indeed non consequential and about nothing more than culture.

(103,811 posts)That makes me drop everything and move toward the source (radio, stereo, etc.) until the last note. It's like a reflexive thing, I can't help it.

(17,728 posts)Thanks for that. So many meaningful song lyrics from my youth. Those were some difficult times in our country also, but at least we were young and full of hope that we could make a difference. And we did.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
