An American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. made an emergency landing Sunday in Kansas City after a passenger attempted to enter the cockpit and open an exit door. Crew members and other passengers controlled the unruly passenger until he was taken into custody upon landing, The New York Times reported.
Mouaz Moustafa, a passenger on the plane, described the scene to the Times.
A flight attendant ran to the back of the plane and got the coffee pot and continued to bash the guy on the head, Moustafa told the newspaper, adding
the man was bleeding profusely.
American Airlines said that the flight landed safely and was met by law enforcement upon arrival. The airline added that the plane's crew handled the circumstances with the utmost skill and professionalism, the Times reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported it has recently seen disturbing increase in incidents where airline passengers have disrupted flights with threatening or violent behavior. As of Feb. 8, the agency said it has seen 394 unruly passenger reports and 255 mask-related incidents this year.

(13,412 posts)You practically need a welding torch to break through a cockpit door nowadays not to mention the impossibility of a single human opening an exit door mid-flight. Stupidity and anger never mix well.

(10,853 posts)They could drop off an unruly passenger in the middle of nowhere, and no other airline should take them. Let them take an Uber home to LA from KC. Or where ever.

(17,172 posts)people are a lot less willing to put up with their 30,000-foot tantrums. Anything that might compromise that plane's airworthiness is a threat to everyone on board.
So he got hit on the head. He should consider himself lucky he wasn't removed in five separate Thermos coolers.

(25,839 posts)I'm in Santa Fe, my son is on the East Coast. I last saw him in October, 2019, before the Pandemic. I would love to see him again. But I'm not willing to get on board an airplane, and I'm not about to ask him to do something I won't do. Sigh. I will see him again at some point in the future.

(5,721 posts)someday passengers are gonna have to pass a psych test and arrest record check before boarding a flight.
Not this clown, though. He's never flying again.
