According to Bannon, it was COVID and George Floyd that convinced him Trump only really wanted the Oval Office when it was fun. Up until 2020, Trump was able to largely let the country run on auto-pilot. Racking up deaths was depressing.

7. Not the worst

Though close. Buchanan laid the foundation for the Civil War, was consistently drunk, was mired in scandal, and had almost no redeeming achievements in his term. Trump ironically did not enmesh the country in another war, which was about the only thing that keeps him from achieving bottom, and that record occurred primarily because he was too inept to even pull it off. George W. Bush had one shining moment (arguably) in his term with his response to 9/11, and while I think he too was inept, I don't really thing Bush was so much evil as simply clueless and lacking in his ability to say no to his "advisors". Trump was corrupt and evil, but Buchanan may have been worse.

Yes, Buchanan and A Johnson were bad, but no other president in our history engaged in conspiracy to commit sedition. That alone should place him at the bottom. Add all the other stuff (corruption, separating children from their parents, inept response to the pandemic, etc.), and I don't see how anyone could be worse. And by a long, long shot.
