Jill Biden decorates White House with Valentine's Day hearts for second year in a row
I missed having a First Lady who is not a porn star
This time last year, as Washington was reeling from the Capitol riot, Jill Biden was placing giant pink, red and white hearts on the North Lawn of the White House bearing messages of hope, unity and love.
That Valentines Day decoration/stunt from Americas new first lady was a splashy yet homespun way of demonstrating that the country was now in different hands pretty much the opposite of Melania Trumps stark, blood-red rows of Christmas trees. Bidens lawn decorations were not a sophisticated affair; one critic posited that they were meant to resemble candy hearts but looked like theyd been built by a middle school stage crew.
Now, Biden is repeating the gesture, with the display of a giant White House-created heart on the North Lawn, as well as decorations inside the White Houses East Wing from the second-grade classes of the District of Columbias 2021 Teacher of the Year, Alejandro Diasgranados, of Aiton Elementary School. As with last year, the lawn decorations were erected in an area in front of the row of cameras that TV reporters use for their live shots of the White House which means they were broadcast across the country all day.
