Federal cannabis legalization effort to 'tear down the walls' gains momentum

The high-profile Senate Democrats pursuing cannabis reform are asking fellow lawmakers for input as they prepare to introduce a comprehensive bill.

It’s the latest sign that there could be a serious effort this year to “tear down the walls” of federal prohibition, as many in the $1.2 billion state-legal Oregon industry — eager to sell their wares beyond state borders — put it.

In a “Dear Colleagues” letter sent on Thursday, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Finance Chairman Ron Wyden of Oregon and Cory Booker of New Jersey said it’s time for the federal government to get out of the way of states. They noted that 37 have said yes to medical cannabis and 18 have also endorsed adult-use.

“This bill aims to right the wrongs of the past and ensure that the federal government is matching the advancements made in states across the country,” they wrote.

They like to smoke it, but they also like to blame The left for pushing for legalization at the same time

Several did support medical, but I'm not sure about this bill. If it removes the cat 1 listing, they may not go for it. Which means manchin will hold out.

If it is primarily banking and insurance reforms, they may support it.

But the cat 1 issue needs to be resolved. That is what keeps it illegal at the federal level wit zero tolerance.
