(13,903 posts)seems kind of counter productive to tell them. Good for terrorizing the public, causing a panic and major refugee problem for European Union though

(19,542 posts)Hours after issuing a global statement saying he heard Russia would attack his country on Feb. 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy walked back the prediction on Monday, clarifying that he was referring only to media reports.
The first statement spooked the markets and led to widespread headlines and media reports.
We are told that February 16 will be the day of the attack, Zelenskyy said in a video statement posted on Facebook.
However, after his comments were taken by many at face value, his spokesman, Sergii Nykyforov, said that the president, who is a former comedian, was only saying what has been reported elsewhere.
The president referred to a date that was spread by the media, the spokesman told NBC News.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday he has been informed a Russian invasion of his country will start in two days, a comment that stirred confusion over whether Zelensky was delivering a sobering warning or an attempt at gallows humor, as Ukraine remains on-edge over a possible incursion.
Zelensky said in a Facebook post hes been told February 16 will be the day of the attack, according to translations published by Reuters and NBC News, part of a longer message designating Wednesday as a national day of unity.
Taken literally, its a stark change of tone for Zelensky, who has spent weeks downplaying the risk of a Russian invasion, insisting Russia is no more likely to invade now than last year and urging Western nations not to sow panic.
But Bloomberg interpreted the message as a sarcastic comment from Zelensky, and an unnamed senior Ukrainian official told CNN the presidents dire February 16 prediction was intended to be ironic, CNN producer Vaughn Sterling tweeted (Forbes has reached out to Zelenskys office and the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment).

(7,862 posts)Granted, so would most people, to be honest, but he is definitely in over his head.
This is certainly no joking matter and it's no time to be "ironic."
Even if most people would be in over their head in such a situation, most wouldn't be stupid enough to making jokes about this very somber situation.
