'You're Fired': Lawyers React to Donald Trump Being Dropped by Accounting Firm

The longtime accounting company for former President Donald Trump and his family business recently parted ways with him, the New York Attorney General’s Office noted in a Monday court filing.

Legal experts say the news likely does not bode well for the Trumps.

The breakup between the Trump empire and Mazars USA LLP was first revealed in a letter from the accounting firm sent to the Trump Organization’s chief legal officer Alan Garten on February 9, 2022.

“We write to advise that the Statements of Financial Condition for Donald J. Trump for the years ending June 30, 2011 – June 30, 2020, should no longer be relied upon and you should inform any recipients thereof who are currently relying upon one or more of those documents that those documents should not be relied upon,” the letter from Mazars general counsel William Kelly begins.

That whole deal was shady. So we ended up with Boof Beer Boy on SCOTUS. Would love to know the details of that operation too.

is SHADY. SHADY AS HELL.

With this asshole, the usual standard about "innocent til proven guilty" ought NOT to apply.

Haven't we learned enough by now that it should be "guilty until proven innocent" regarding anything that's he's involved with.

Deutschebank lent Chump a lot of money for practically nothing down. They enabled Chump to work several large deals when American banks wouldn't even return his calls. Guess who was the lending manager for the bank? Justice Kennedy's son.

it will be Mazars v Trump. Mazars is claiming that Trump gave them bad data.

Barbara McQuade was just on and said that Paul Manafort was convicted of financial crimes because his accountant testified against him.
She also said the easiest way to prove criminal intent is through Trump's taxes. Calling the IRS, time for a real audit.

I believe that the Mazar accountant has testified before the grand jury. This accountant knows as much about Trump's finances as the CFO Weisselberg knows.

Trump is going to need a scam GoFundMe or Melania is going to have to run another auction.

Just to sign off on whatever you are handed is not very smart.

Edit to add: Maybe this is why Melania has been having garage sales.

if they are paid to or required to. Neither the tax work nor issuing compiled financial statements requires any type of audit and the accountant can trust what the client gives him as long as it makes pro forma sense.

Audits mostly exist in the realm of public companies and governments.

For 10 years they did his accounting, apparently without major issues, certainly nothing serious to end their relationship with him, until now.

Ah, the story of rats and sinking ships is an old one, but oh so true.

The Mazars letter also mentioned one piece of tax business that it has said was unresolved regarding an apartment of Matthew Calamari Jr., son of longtime Trump security director and chief operating officer Matthew Calamari Sr.

Calamari Jr. was called to testify last year in a separate criminal case being brought by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and James regarding an alleged tax fraud scheme in which employees allegedly received untaxed payments, cars and apartments.

In the letter, Mazars said the Trump Organization did not, after repeated requests, provide information regarding Calamari’s apartment (and misspelled Calamari’s last name).

“We believe the only information left to complete those returns is the information regarding the Matt Calimari Jr. [sic] apartment,” Kelly wrote. “As you know, Donald Bender has been asking for this information for several months but has not received it.”
