General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSince CA has almost half the death rate of some states, around 80,000 lives were possibly saved
in CA alone because they were more strict than most other states. Some North Eastern blue states have high death rates but only because they got slammed the hardest during the first wave.
Pointing out that CA saved close to 100,000 lives and that other strict states probably saved another 400,000 or more folks, shows how important strict measures were. HUGE numbers of lives were saved in states who took this seriously.

(9,952 posts)Wear the mask, follow the rules. I know it is not all of Oregon. I went to Portland and stopped in a small town rest stop and there were a number without mask. In Eugene almost all do. Very few flaunt no mask or even musk under nose.

(51,591 posts)I follow Worldometers and I look at the deaths per 1 million and CA along with the states you mentioned did far better than the purple and red states did.
CA has not decided what to do with mask mandates in schools yet.

(3,858 posts)Red state vs blue state really doesn't paint a clear picture. Population density, average age, socioeconomic status, pre existing conditions, and a host of other factors play a large part. For every blue state like California, Oregon and Washington that did well, you have a Utah, Alaska and Nebraska that also faired better than average.

(28,936 posts)Some have a lot more older people and some have a lot more younger people. The three states you mention above all make the top 6 for youngest populations with Utah #1, Alaska # 3 and Nebraska # 6. CA also has a lot of young people.
I hope someone will plot in all the different variables and see how many lives were saved with strict measures.
