Donald Trump's family business will be charged with racketeering, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist predicted on CNN on Tuesday.
CNN's John Berman interviewed David Cay Johnston one of the few journalists to obtain Trump's tax returns following news that the accounting firm Mazars dropped Trump as a client.
"What happens if Mazars cooperates with investigators?" Berman asked. "Which, by all accounts, it does seem that they are."

(Special note to my dim little stalker with the reading comprehension issues: "Handcuffs or it didn't happen" means I DO want to see a result.)

(48,947 posts)How many times have you heard of an accounting firm firing a billionaire? And admitting the accounts are crooked?

(21,247 posts)Trump's accountant testified before the grand jury, that means 2 things;
1. He flipped on Trump and he knows as much about Trump's finances as Allen Weisselberg.
2. By testifying he gets immunity, he can't be prosecuted, which means he has to give enough evidence to fry bigger fish.
No executive privilege here, no attorney client privilege here. Here is the best part, criminal intent must be proven and the easiest way to prove criminal intent is through taxes, ask Al Capone.

(31,930 posts)And Cy Vance is no longer the DA.

(21,247 posts)Cy Vance hired attorney Mark Pomerantz for a reason, he is a financial crime expert, he can sort through 5 million Trump.org documents.
The Mazar accountant already flipped, he testified before the grand jury which means he now has immunity from prosecution.
The Mazar accountant knows as much about Trump's finances as Allen Weisselberg.
As Barbara McQuade said last night, that's how they convicted Paul Manafort, his accountant flipped on him. One big difference for Trump, no pardon.

(21,247 posts)Trump's accountant, the guy who knows all about Trump's finances, just flipped on him. Trump's accountant just testified before a grand jury which means he gets immunity from prosecution. For him to get immunity from prosecution he has to provide evidence to fry bigger fish.
Bonus point; before Cy Vance retired he hired Mark Pomerantz an expert in financial fraud. Pomerantz has the ability to sort through the 5 million Trump financial documents. Mark Pomerantz is one sharp cookie.
Bonus point #2 - No pardon.

(25,812 posts)saying things like "Trump is going down!" or so-and-so is going to flip!
So far, no indictments. No arrest. No hint of jail time. I will believe it when it actually happens.
Hell, he should have had to face trial and jail time over lots of previously fraudulent and outright illegal things he's been doing his whole life.

(21,247 posts)I have been thinking about this; I believed that the prosecutors had to flip Allen Weisselberg to nail Trump, I don't feel that way any more.
The Mazar accountant's flipping will do the job and as a bonus, fuck Allen Weisselberg convict his crooked ass also, we don't need you, too late.
