The line has been drawn in the sand. McConnell is considered a very astute political observer and he would not challenge Trump if he did not think it was advantageous for him and his Party.
Although many Republicans voted for Trump the last time around, there is not a lot we can glean from that information. They would vote for an old yeller dog before they would vote for a Democrat, as the old saying goes.
But McConnell is like an icon to the majority of Republicans. They love the way he blocked Obama and the Democrats at every turn and how he was able to stack the Court in their favor.
They will not throw him aside for Donald Trump.
It appears that the Republican Party is now splintered between the two camps. Democrats should smartly and quietly use this to their political advantage.

(9,500 posts)Let's not pretend McConnell had any charisma with the Republican base. The only thing Moscow Mitch has are his connections to people with deep pockets.
