1) Back in March of 2020, Ms. Maddow was sounding the alarm about Covid 19, a deadly new disease sweeping the world. She was showing xrays of Covid lung: never seen before deadly pneumonia circle/spots filling up the lung. This was at the time trump was saying it will be "gone in a week" and sending people out to their death. THANK YOU Ms. Maddow for sounding the alarm. I started taking precautions immediately.
2). She would not let go of trump's inauguration funds. Way back when, Ms. Maddow said it just didn't make sense. Sooooo much money came in and was allocated, but trump had one of the funkiest, low budget inauguration ever (he couldn't get any big names). So much money & so little accountability - She just wouldn't let go of that bone.
3). The fraudulent electors. Another bone Ms. Maddow would not let go of. Just about every week she had some new developments of the scheme. She kept it front and center until it finally broke open and other media started covering it.
Just 3 things that come to mind this morning. THANK YOU Rachel Maddow!

(4,239 posts)uses her brilliance and humanitarianism to make the world a better place. In early March she used visuals, testimony, and expert guests to sound an alarm about Covid 19. She was almost panicked about what she saw, and how "dear leader" was leading people to their death.

(22,011 posts)She is always on top of things, with clear analysis. I like Ali, but he's not Rachel.
I'll always remember her breaking down when first reporting about kids in cages at the border.
Hoping she comes back refreshed and better than ever!

That one woman who got six years in jail just for trying to register still pisses me off!

(43,064 posts)It's often an unnoticed anomaly, some little tidbit incongruent with other facts or common sense. Crooks put out lies and cover stories, but we shouldn't take them at face value. Be skeptical. Investigate. Apply the power of logic and reason.

(6,150 posts)And it's not just her. There is a whole team of people supporting her show; gathering the information; sorting through all the topics; working to flesh out those wonderful shows she presents for us.
And then there's Lawrence O'Donnell. He may give us a lot of the same information during his hour, but his style is entirely different. What a pair!

(7,263 posts)She is THE BEST.
She stands shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart with Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, Mike Wallace, Upton Sinclair, and yes, Hunter S. Thompson.
(The last choice may not be popular with some, but he had a huge impact on modern journalism.)

(1,654 posts)That replica of President Obama's cake, but only the top layer or so was real cake. The rest was "dummy." But the cost was enormous. Where did the money go? Everything in that inauguration was on the cheap, but it "cost" more than Obama's. The room rental at Trump hotel for inauguration. She doesn't let go when she wants some accountability.

(32,599 posts)Her staff of researchers and show-runners are also the best, and they're working 24/7 even when Rachel is off. They all work together as a great team, and thank God they're for the good guys. I hate to think what would happen to our country if they should all suddenly move to the dark side.

. all aimed at finding the truth and revealing it. Theres a very human heart connected to that brain her shocked reaction to being handed the first news of children in cages was unforgettable.
Whenever someone is broad-brushing their wrath at the entire the media I always say: MSNBC- Rachel - Nicolle - Katy.
Note to Rachels Intern: yes, she certainly does have a fan club over at this contentious place.

(59 posts)I also have been saved by R.M. Her podcast (I cut my cable t.v. years ago) helped me stay sane and informed over the tragedy of TFG. You are 100% correct in this assertion and you are not alone on this one. I sure do miss her though.
BTW, If you have not yet read Blowout, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It is really good, I promise.

(4,239 posts)Reading some of the responses, it seems Ms. Maddow has saved a few of us. For me, she presented such an urgency back in early March about Covid. I was still going to the pool, grocery store, recently retired and about to start substituting, etc. BUT after watching her show I stopped abruptly, and that may have saved my life (and my husband's). I was not getting that information anywhere, certainly not from "dear leader".
And the fact that she publicly shared her skin cancer diagnosis. AND that she is there with her calm, serious, no nonsense, urgent, clear, information for us each night. She's a gem.

(11,122 posts)I love her. I think her voice is the clearest form of informed journalism.
For four years I watched religiously. Then I got depressed and became cynical. Not about what she said and what she told us. But because nothing seemed to come from it.
Night after night she told the truth. At least twice a week she laid out reasons with proof about why the orange blob was unfit for office and harmful to the country, about why he should be in jail along with his family.
Over and over she logically and methodically laid it out. But he stayed in office for four years and has taken over one of the two parties in our country.
It became bad for my health as I got angrier and more despondent.
I think she should have the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Pulitzer. I can't watch very much any more because the truth isn't making me free. It is making me sad. Sad that our country is this way.
Rachel is the jewel of televised journalism that Murrow wished the medium would produce.

(61,690 posts)Yeah, I would feel initially hopeless, but then felt like recognizing the problems and the danger they posed was the first step in saving our nation. The background RM provided gave insights into the causes of of our democracy issues, but I know you know this.
One thing I do consistently is skip news on Saturday and Sunday, unless something special is happening that I find out about on DU (like the Charlottesville protests and assaults. That two day break does alot for helping me relax.
ITA about RM receiving the PMF & Pulitzer. So glad she won her Emmys. Best wishes to you!

(11,122 posts)Kinda hoped people would wake up and do good before I kicked off. Seems to be going the other way.
Doesn't mean I won't put in the hours and money for the election, but it got depressing to see Rachel doing all that work and have so few paying attention. I would be watching a segment on CNN or MSNBC that laid out the orange blob's crimes, knowing that none of his voters was watching. They were eating the shit soup that fox was putting out instead.
I wonder if she is feeling the same way. Like, "how many times do I have to prove his criminality and evil?" Maybe that is why she is wanting to do something else.

(90 posts)I'm waiting patiently for her return in April and look forward to the "Bag Man" movie. I listened to that podcast at least five times in its entirety. It was absolutely brilliant. I'd never paid much attention to Spiro Agnew before and she opened my eyes to how much corruption was going on in the 1970s.

(54,302 posts)I had no idea who was, but said,WOW what a towering intellect!
Years later, when bringing my daughter to the Provincetown airport on Cape Cod, I saw a very tall woman with short dark hair and big black glasses coming into the tiny terminal building. I said, she must think shes Rachel Maddow or something. Well, she had every right to think so, since it WAS Rachel Maddow.
She stuck out her hand and said, hi, Im Rachel. Gee, I never would have guessed.

(54,302 posts)She had dropped her parents off at the terminal already and was just coming back in from parking her car. She was staying on longer, and had no baggage of her own. She was seeing them off after they had visited. But she was nice enough to chat for a bit with us. I had been after Howard Dean to introduce us, but we were never in the same place at the same time. I told him afterward that he was officially free from his obligation.
