Hard to believe Crist is likely the best candidate against Desantis and giving it a try again. Hes kind of resilient though and has some money behind him, even after losing his last two statewide efforts against Rubio and Rick Scott.
I think Crist believed Florida was going permanently Blue when he rebuked the Republican Party back around 2009/2010, gotta remember Obama won FL at the time and was popular.
Desantis - 51
Crist - 43
Desantis - 53
Fried - 42
Democratic Primary
Crist - 44%
Fried - 27%

(43,173 posts)And yes, he was a Republican as Governor, but honestly he was not that bad even then--hands down the best Governor I've had in Florida. (Not hard since the only others were Jeb, Scott and DeSantis).
Since his switch, he has proven himself to be a reliable Democrat.
Honestly I don't care if it's Crist or Fried, as long as either beats DeSantis.

(7,408 posts)Agricultural commissioner isnt exactly a high profile position either.
Crist and Fried both have the same problem, they are white lawyers and honestly, kind of boring. Neither is going to generate enthusiasm or community support like say a Stacey Abrams can in Georgia.

(7,408 posts)Are all Desantiss prime demographics. Its going to be hard to overcome that with either of the two most likely Democratic candidates. Neither is going to generate much enthusiasm with the younger voters, and they arent really linked to the Hispanic and Black communities/voting bases.

(7,408 posts)And has more recently lost statewide against Rubio and Scott.
Its not hard to believe hell win the Democratic primary, thats all but guaranteed with this field, just unfortunate hes the best option. Would be nicer to see a fresher face from the Black or Hispanic community that could generate more enthusiasm and national attention.

(17,376 posts)Hes lost two statewide races since then. There must be a stronger candidate out there.

(9,998 posts)Sorry to those that live there, but those states are a lost cause. Better use for campaigns elsewhere.

(7,513 posts)Florida has been a lost cause for some time but people keep hoping. Since Beto made a good run last time I'd like to see how he does this time but overall you're right.

(7,408 posts)I like Val Demings but its not feeling like the best timing to try to oust Rubio, hell be riding Desantiss coattails in this one. Also sucks shell have to give up her House seat win or lose to go up against him.

At best I would expect FL and TX to mirror the 2020 presidential election numbers for the statewide governor/senate races. Around about 52-46% similar to the Trump/Biden numbers, thats at best, could be worse depending how the economy/inflation/fuel prices are going.

(9,998 posts)Just don't plow so much money into them, when that money can be better utilized elsewhere, on races where we have a chance to win.
Jose Garcia
(2,593 posts)He was running for the Senate as a Republican, but then switched to independent in the Spring of 2010 after Rubio started leading in the polls for the GOP primary.
madville
(7,408 posts)But he definitely began trending that direction in 2010 by vetoing several high profile Republican bills passed in the legislature. By rebuking the Republican Party he was betting on the state trending more Democratic after Obamas success and it hasnt, the opposite actually.
