Sandy Hook Families Win $73 Million In Lawsuit Against Remington Arms

Remington Arms made the gun used to kill 20 children and six adults in the 2012 shooting at a school in Newtown, Connecticut.

Remington Arms has agreed to settle liability claims from nine families whose loved ones were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The settlement agreement, announced Tuesday in a court filing, is the first time in the U.S. that a gun manufacturer has been held liable for a mass shooting.

The family members of five children and four adults killed in the shooting won $73 million in the settlement, attorneys for the families told HuffPost in a statement. Last July, Remington offered to pay $33 million to settle the lawsuit, which the families declined.

[No way the six on the SC allows it to stand, but it will be a nice ride for a while.] DELETE

As pointed out below it was a settlement so the insurance cos are going to pay out so no more trials and appeals.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't realize that Remington had declared bankruptcy. How can a gun company go broke in this country even with a Trump slump?

That man card thing probably wouldn't have played well for a jury. I guess that is why the insurance companies folded up their tents. I wonder if they will continue to underwrite gun manufacturers.

On a fundamental level it seems wrong suing over the intentional misuse of a product. Should a car maker get sued because someone was driving drunk? Is it the fault of the alcohol maker? How about we blame the individual who shot a bunch of kids?
