Per NBC, part of Kamila Valieva's defense at the hearing was that there was an "overlap" with her grandfather's heart medicine.
How many of you have "accidentally" taken a medication that wasn't yours?

(3,853 posts)CNN reported that three heart medications showed up on the test. Two of them were legal drugs however. But still, don't think Grandpa's medication lie will hold water for multiple medications.

It's also prescribed to humans for thyroid... so it wouldn't hurt and one dose isn't enough to alter thyroid function... which is good because Lord knows I don't need to gain weight

(7,319 posts)But I'm willing to bet she was taking it during training and not competition. But got caught this time.
Let's not lose sight that all the other Russian athletes have tested negative for banned substances.
And lets direct the blame where it should be, this test was conducted back in December and it took this long to find out? The IOC is the true fuck up here, had they put in a good system, we wouldn't even be discussing this. After decades they still screw up testing and have punishments that are too harsh on some and too lenient on others. Of course, the only reason China has the winter Olympics is because of the shenanigans the IOC was trying to pull on Norway.
And the drama over all this, yeah, whatever. I'll start believing its authentic once the 1976 US Swim Team gets the medals they deserve.

(7,319 posts)Really aren't any regulations while training. If this test came up earlier they would have either suspended here outright or do regular tests to make sure it was out of her system. Again, the IOC screwed up here, they always react rather than plan ahead.

(57,624 posts)Doping is prohibited, period.
Xolodno
(7,319 posts)But enforcement, that's a whole different subject. The same thing applies here.
No one is policing effectively during the training periods...if at all. It's an open secret and the IOC turns a blind eye.

since my parents were too broke to go to the ER, they called in a neighbor who was a nurse and she prescribed vomiting.
As for everything to do with the Russian team and their coach it really should be a cold day in Hell before they come back. They wreck young peoples lives without a thought, and it is so reminiscent of East Germany in the bad old days.
