First patient in UK gets 'vaccine' for cancer to help immune system ward off cancer permanently

A Merseyside man has become the first in the UK to receive a ‘vaccine’ that is hoped will stop his recurring head and neck cancer from returning, in a clinical research trial which may help bring further ground-breaking treatments for the disease.

The clinical research team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has given patient Graham Booth an injection of a therapy tailor-made to his personal DNA and designed to help his own immune system ward off cancer permanently.

Amazing.

Make sure they work and make sure all of these things are available to ALL people regardless of nation or income. Anything less than that is unacceptable.

... it will be made available to Brits on the National Health Service. I think this socialist medicine they've been practicing there for the past 70+ years has been working quite well actually. Can't speak to other countries but I'm sure it will be made available to lower income countries at cost.

Taxpayers fund a lot of medical research, such as that done by the National Institutes of Health, and then turn the breakthrough findings over to a pharmaceutical company that charges outrageous amounts for the treatment. If we taxpayers are funding the research, of which I heartily approve, why does Big Pharma get the benefits?

I had surgeries, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, along with 5+ years of tamoxifen, an oral medication that was believed would help prevent a recurrence. So far, I have remained cancer free and am so very grateful.

Early in my treatment (that took place over several years, plus the follow up) there was discussion of having a custom made treatment for each patient. It would be tailor made for their genetic makeup and their specific type of cancer. It was like science fiction. It appears we are on the cusp of such a treatment, a vaccine that will greatly increase the chances the cancer will be killed off and never return!

As a survivor of cancer, I can only say it is a privilege to live to see the day arrive when maybe cancer won’t be the scourge and trauma it is. Improvements in treatments have been made but this vaccine will be a game changer. It just makes my heart glad to see such hope closer now than ever.

And encourages everyone not to take the vaccine for it on account of the tracking device?
Makes a lot of sense to use our own immune system to fight it.

How the hell could they have pulled it off?
