i used to bring my 90lb bulldogge to the inpatient unit. i'm one of those extroverted introverts, and having a dog to start the ball rolling was great. i dealt more w family and staff than patients, since most were non-responsive by the time they got to the unit. but we got folks who's caregivers needed respite, or who needed meds adjusted.
once i get going, i can talk all day. and folks are sitting around, so, yeah, singing my people's song. telling stories, hearing stories, cracking wise, entertaining bored, wild children.
loved my nurses, too.

was having health problems that were cutting into it, then came the plague and volunteers were locked out.
i miss it. it's just so simple. an ear, a dog, a hug, and someone's world is a little bit less awful. i always felt it was a privilege to be let in.

but i tell ya what, if that kid was in my ward, i'd have a hard time not getting into some kind of trouble. so many died alone the last 2 yrs, and these assholes had the privilege of being there thanks to a vaccine, and they took a pass to own the libs. if they have any other kids, maybe they should get a look.

I had worked at the best extended care facility in the county while in school, but had to quit work and school to take care of him because hell would have froze over before I let a good man die in even the best extended care facility available to me.
