Despite how it's being used (you are correct... as a tool for minority *rule*), it is also a tool that helps keep States united. This is more relevant today than ever, as the balkanization of our nation is a very realistic future.

Before, it was to protect rights. When the minority was poor, rural, white farmers.

If we acted like Republicans then nothing would ever get done and we would be in a constant state of chaos.

13. I understand what you are saying. They are Senate Rules

Senate rules are policies meant to allow the Senate to operate within a Congressional Session. They are not laws, but they are agreed upon in order to prevent a complete breakdown of the system. I agree that they allow the minority to delay the passage of nominations and if abused, can be detrimental to the process.

The rule can be changed at the start of every congressional session. The problem is that enough Senators do not want to change it that it has not been changed for a long time.

Democrats cannot just change the rules arbitrarily and Democrats would not use the Blue Slip just to mess with the Republicans, again, because we believe in government and the rule of law or the law of rules.

Klobuchar: There were a lot things I disagreed with the Trump DOJ… but never once did I think about holding up the US attorney for Arkansas…In my home state, they do not understand why a Senator from Arkansas is holding up law enforcement in the state of Minnesota
