I have to say... he was biking directly at "the cow""The world famous Bianchi Rock Cobbler is a stupidly hard ride bordering on a race ... conceived by drunken madmen," explains the website for the ride. But while those "drunken madmen" designed a roughly 80-mile California off-road course with as much as 6,500 feet of elevation gain, they likely didn't expect bull attacks to be a feature. Except that's what happened during the Rock Cobbler race in Bakersfield Saturday. FOX26 reports three riders were attacked by the bull, and it speaks with one of them. Tony Inderbitzin says that as he approached the animal, he thought it was a cowa fairly common sight in the area. Inderbitzin realized his mistake at the last moment.
"He turned, squared up, and I had maybe a second to brace myself or do anything," he says of the bull. Video shows what transpired. "As I was on my hands and knees trying to get back up, he circled around and came up with his head underneath my head and chest and flicked me up in the air."
He tells the station every part of his body, with the exception of his head and one arm, hurt. Rock Cobbler founder Sam Ames said in a statement that all three riders are safe, and two of them managed to finish the ride (Inderbitzin didn't). Cycling News reports Peter Stetina, who was the first to finish the course in a time of 4:49:13, declared it the "kookiest bike race I've ever done."

(55,007 posts)personally I would throw some rocks and make some noise from a ways off if I couldn't go around. but then I also know the difference between a bull and a cow, know that cows can do the same thing, and how to watch to see if that is what is about to go down.

(82,849 posts)But going directly at an animal in your path is preferable (in my experience) to trying to out-guess it. I haven't hit any squirrels or other animals (the occasional deer is a feature of my daily commute), but I've nearly bought it more than once taking an opposite tack from the animal only to have it dart one way then dart the other trying to nutmeg my bicycle.

(8,329 posts)Usually occurs between bike messengers and taxi cabs. The end result is the same. The biker gets fucked up.
I owned 2 motorcycles in the city. Now I have none, there is no safe way to ride in the city and they were expensive weekend toys.

(22,114 posts)remember a huge field in the country where I grew up at, and one always had to be careful in crossing one particular field (I crossed it as a kid to get to the river, to go fishing, neighbors didn't mind). There was, however, a bull in the field so you had to be careful in crossing the field. Most times you were okay, he was on the other far side of the field, but there were times where I was damn glad that the fence line was right there, and I was able to get across it to escape. These critters do not like trespassers/very territorial.

(64,931 posts)To tip some cows. We stopped at a farm, where there were a couple of cows out. We did not succeed except for pissing off the cow. None of us were hurt by the cow, shot or arrested.

I told my kids that male cows are bulls and to stay away from it.
The Ex said I was being over dramatic, and let the kids go into the paddock with it.
At times, the kids were charged by it, but they made it over the fence.
Well, one day, she had the 'male cow' in a barn stall and that 'male cow' went bull on her ass.
Within days, I'm being offered grass fed beef from that 'male cow' as a butcher was called to the farm.

(118,642 posts)roaming around in the back fields. I think it was a way to keep us paying tourists close to the farmhouse and barn and not getting lost in the back 40 acres. It worked. I think once we went an acre in. That was it.

(1,939 posts)It's generally not a good idea to mess with either one, unless you know what you are doing. Some Brahmin breeds are seriously smart, not necessarily friendly, and can outrun and outjump a horse.
