They have a commercial stating :"the country is headed in the wrong direction"
or some such

(51,590 posts)for some reason. I just saw an advertisement of theirs on TV and wondered how this works.

(31,146 posts)Last I checked they had a F rating from the BBB. How any celebrity could endorse them is beyond me.

(38,311 posts)... was how to keep cheap used cars running indefinitely.
I bought a new car once when I was young and full of myself in the 'eighties. That car lasted long enough that I gave it to one of my children, who was younger than the car.
Here in the twenty first century it's been my habit to buy $1000 cars and give them away when they start to irritate me.
I have a serious love/hate relationship with cars. I like to mess around with them but I look forward to the day when automobile culture is dead and nobody needs to own a car.

(25,816 posts)There used to be a small section in the classified ads called payday specials with cheap cars.
Back then I could tune-up a car or replace fuel pumps, alternators, etc by myself. Now, when
I open the hood to newer cars, I just shake my head.
I have had one new vehicle in my 71 years, a Dodge Caravan, but my daughter totaled it.
I currently own a '95 Buick Century, a great car, and a '90 GMC 3/4 pickup, also runs great.

(1,779 posts)vehicle warranty that wasn't a scam.
They simply are not worth the money. Getting them to actually cover something that is not excluded is about like winning the lottery.
Exceptions would be something extended by the manufacturer themselves (not the dealership)

(8,922 posts)that a company would charge you $89 a month promising to fix your car when it breaks, and then find an excuse not to pay up. They have such convincing commercials.
It amazes me how anyone is gullible enough to fall for these kinds of rip-offs. But then, half the country fell for tfg.
BBB is a good resource, but some things just seem to scream not to believe in the first place.

(22,712 posts)Predatory Capitalism is alive and well in the USA. Read the small print to see what is really covered before purchasing. Does the plan cover anything other than the powertrain?

(50,269 posts)something about most people being unhappy about the direction of the country and how much happier they'd be knowing their car was protected, yada, yada, yada. In other words, "we hate Biden, too." Go where the fools are if you want to turn a fast buck.

(31,818 posts)I've always bought new cars as a "good deal" (last year's stock) and maintained them, so I could drive them to death. Exceptions - the volkswagen beetle from the 70's I bought from my parents - to cover 1st six months of insurance - died at 280K miles.
My 2017 Beetle Turbo - 95K miles and not one single issue. Will probably drive another 8 years.
