As long as Trump was on top, he and his stooges were a wall of protection, allowing Putin to work magic behind the scenes without worrying about the consequences. It probably wasn't just obstructing the Democratic and democratic process in 2016. After that win, there were other concessions that went his way. I think we're all going to recoil in horror when we realize how successful he was at embedding himself in our government.
So, what Putin fears the most, is retaliation for setting our country back for generations. The details will probably result in escalations for war.
Putin is just preparing, with this latest move in the Ukraine. He is probably hoping to improve his hand in negotiations that would protect him from the full wrath from the U.S.A.
Of course, we'll hear none of it. No one will connect the dots for us. I just say, keep this idea in the back of your heads, as we see Putin's next move. I think this is all happening because Trump's world is melting away and, soon, they'll probably start talking about Putin's influence.
This is also a reason for Merritt Garland to move slowly. The more that is revealed, the more the anger will rise within our country.

(12,904 posts)Putin issues threats, to gain leverage in future negotiations about his criminal behavior? By backing off his threats, he gains leverage for good behavior?
He also seems to fear what may come at him from his own people. (Maybe same as TFG and crew)
Something about this concept seems so right. I think whats to come may make your idea make more sense all the time. I think you are 100% right about Garland. A rushed prosecution would let many rats escape.
