Hochul overwhelmingly wins convention vote to be party's nominee for governor (NY)
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has been designated the Democratic nominee for a full term of her own, garnering more than 85% of the weighted vote from the delegates Thursday at the state Democratic convention in New York City.
Her next closest opponent, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, received 12%. He would've needed to get 25% to automatically appear on a primary ballot in June for the state's chief executive role.
Williams will now have to petition his way to the primary ballot.
Hochul, who became lieutenant governor in 2015, became governor back in August when then Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned over allegations of sexual harassment. Hochul said at that time she would seek a full term as governor in this fall's election.
