@SureReality
And here it is. Their GQP goal is to defund public schools, subsidize private schools, make them unaffordable for many, and then teach religion.
South Carolina is moving fast.

(19,382 posts)Public schools are funded by homeowners in districts the schools are located. How does the state defund all those districts?

(106,204 posts)not about privatisation at all. Or religion (these say religion became less important):

I'm struggling to see the Hitler comparison here.

(81,257 posts)The end goal is power, control and messaging.
Children will only be taught the party line.
Just substitute the word GOP for Nazi and you will see my point.
The only reason for GOP privatization is to control what is being taught to children.

(106,204 posts)It's harder to control what private schools teach - even the religious ones can go with Young Earth Creationism, Catholicism, acceptance or denial of evolution, and so on.

(81,257 posts)Not trying to ban books, fire teachers, etc.??

(106,204 posts)This is to push taxpayer money to GOP supporters and boosters who run private schools. As I said, it's actually harder to control private schools.
Hitler comparisons don't always work.

(343 posts)We're having debates over how "Defund The Police" sounds to the electorate.
Our candidates need to tar every Republican with the "Defund the Public Schools" or "Cancel the Public Schools" label. Let them be on the defensive for once!

(5,161 posts)talks specifically about public education:
The General Assembly shall provide for the maintenance and support of a system of free public schools open to all children in the State and shall establish, organize and support such other public institutions of learning, as may be desirable. S.C. Const. art. XI, § 3.
The state's general assembly is required to fund public schools so SureReality is not being honest about defunding but rather playing to the crowd, especially an out of state crowd who lacks the basic knowledge of the South Carolina state constitution.
It is highly unlikely that the this voucher system would survive a court challenge:
No money shall be paid from public funds nor shall the credit of the State or any of its political subdivisions be used for the direct benefit of any religious or other private educational institution" S.C. Const. art. XI, § 4

(16,992 posts)everytime I pass thru that state on my way elsewhere I wonder how people can be so damn dumb. If it wasn't for Charleston Naval Base and whatever other taxpayer funded employment they'd all be picking sandspurs outa their asses and going no where. Whoops, they aren't going anywhere fast no matter.

(5,161 posts)your experience is extremely limited.
Go to the areas where Clemson, University of South Carolina, Furman University and Wofford College (not to mention a lot of the Charleston metro area) are and the South Carolina you think you know just disappears.
