Problem in Green Bay, that happened to me also.

Seems my neighbor at the south end of the building was flushing these "disposable" wipes, and it clogged the sewer, as a result my toilet backed up, fortunately my landlord and a plumber got the problem corrected in less than a day.

(Had to take the toilet off it's mount and then put it back on again.)

‘Flushable’ wipes cause 1,200-foot clog in Green Bay sewers

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A product that is made to keep you feeling clean is causing some nasty problems for Green Bay’s sanitary sewer systems.

For years, Green Bay Public Works has responded to issues with clogged pipes due to people flushing so-called “flushable” wipes.

“There’s really only three things that belong going down a toilet and it’s the three P’s -- it’s pee, it’s poop, and it’s paper,” said Steve Grenier, Director of Public Works, City of Green Bay.

On Tuesday, Public Works cleaned out 1,200 feet of sanitary line, and at the bottom workers found flushable wipes and absorbent pads clogging up two pumps on Green Bay’s west side.

YES!! Only the three P’s down the toilet. A Hot Wheels car is “flushable” but it does not belong in the sewer.

Also, please pour oil from frying pans into a can freeze it and throw it away. Wipe the pan out with a paper towel.

Garbage disposals are tools of the devil.

When wipes meet oil in the sewer they laminate together and create “fat-bergs” in the pipes and “magic carpets” in lift stations (LS).

The magic carpet floats on the surface of the LS; accumulating to the point that the high/low level floats triggering the pumps on and off become jammed. When the pump high float is jammed closed the LS never activated and there is an overflow. When the pump low float (pump cutoff) is jammed the pump never cuts off, ALL the water is pumped out, the magic carpet is sucked into the pump where it breaks the pump and causes an overflow.

Not to many people here will understand all of that but I have designed more than my share of those.

I understand the hatred of garbage disposals but damn, I wouldn't want to live without one. Did I say that I just design the lift stations and don't maintain them?

We live in an old house and the waste lines are meant to have a lot of water to completely flush them out. The new, low water toilets don't flush as much water as the old ones. He told us to use a TP that is safe for septic systems (like Scott) and that they've seen problems with paper like Cottonelle.
