It is interesting to note that the Omaha World Herald does not explicitly identify Groene as a Republican.

Nebraska Sen. Mike Groene says he will resign from Legislature amid allegations

Sara Gentzler Feb 18, 2022 Updated 49 min ago

State Sen. Mike Groene of North Platte, a conservative firebrand in the Nebraska Legislature, said he’s going to resign from his post after allegations surfaced that he took inappropriate photographs of a female staffer.

Groene said he’ll also withdraw his candidacy for the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

Nebraska Sunrise News on Friday published a story online saying the staffer discovered photos of herself on Groene’s laptop in the course of her work.

In a phone interview with The World-Herald, Groene said that he did take photos of the staffer and that it was a mistake, but he denied many of the published details regarding the allegations and said he never made sexual advances toward the staffer or “said anything to her that could be termed harassment.”

The story says that photos appeared to have been taken by Groene, then emailed to others with “email captions of a sexual nature,” ...

Nebraska state senator to resign amid accusations from aide

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska state Sen. Mike Groene denied accusations Friday that he took inappropriate photos of a female legislative aide without her knowledge, but he said he was going to resign next week to avoid putting his family through a public ordeal.

Groene, conservative Republican who speaks bluntly and often clashes with his Democratic colleagues, said he was preparing a resignation letter. Groene, 66, was scheduled to leave the Legislature next year due to term limits. He recently said he planned to run for the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, but he said Friday that he would withdraw from that race as well and retire.

“I’m done. I really don’t care,” Groene told The Associated Press. “I don’t care about politics anymore. I’ve got bigger fish to fry.”

His comments came after an online news outlet, Nebraska Sunrise News, reported that a longtime legislative aide had filed a complaint accusing Groene of taking inappropriate photos of her without her knowledge. The article said she discovered the photos on Groene’s laptop, which he had given her to complete work-related projects.

I have nightmares of their writing. I don’t read it much anymore but when I did, the experience would leave me with distaste. It had a lot to do with their worldview, their premise from which all things flowed. It was so at odds with my own that reading anything from that paper was like being in a fight.

If you listen to a lot of these conservatives, the phraseology and speech is simply a restatement of sentences which have been spoken hundreds of thousands of times before in the political arena. There is not a single original thought or approach to an issue or problem. That’s why, unfortunately, they often win elections: simply because they’re verbiage is so familiar to the untrained, undisciplined ear.

It’s one of the reasons why they want to keep us uneducated and stupid… The 21st-century version of barefoot and pregnant.
