Who like TDFG, riled up his followers in Florence with his heretic preaching that God spoke through him. Savonorola convinced the people of Florence to refute the Medicis, turn over their luxuries and vanities, and adhere to a stricter way of living and worship. Thus the Bonfire of the Vanities occurred. Great works of Art and literature were burned.
But things started to go downhill for Savonorola. His preaching caught wind of the Vatican in Rome. He was excommunicated and burned at the stake as a heretic after his trial by fire failed and the people of Florence turned against him. It is said that Savonorola was instrumental in Martin Luther's reformation that took place in the early decades of the 16th century that formed what is Protestantism. Catholic in form, but no Pope.
Fast forward to TDFG. The similarities in persona, the cult-like preaching, the handing over of money for his China made merchandise, the adherence to his dogma. To break him, there must be trials. The losses in the Courts so far are showing the cracks. The events of this past week is the start of many more worse weeks to come until total destruction.
Those who think they can pick up where TDFG left off, better think twice.
