A new study has found that hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin were more likely to be prescribed as COVID-19 treatments in U.S. counties with a higher rate of Republican voting.
Hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial that can also be used to treat lupus and rheumatoid arthritis; ivermectin is an antiparasitic thats prescribed for both humans and animals.
Scientists have proposed that both of the decades-old pills could work against COVID-19, though neither drug has shown in rigorous clinical trials that it provides a benefit to people who have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID. (There are several gold-standard trials underway for ivermectin, with results expected in the next month or so.)
But the lack of definitive clinical data hasnt stopped some from believing that hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin do, in fact, work as COVID-19 treatments or prophylactics.

Because the GOP is the "stupid party". I'll bet they do a lot of faith healing and UV lamp enemas too.

(13,485 posts)hydroxychloroquine for 30 years for RA. I had to go to the eye doctor every six months because it can cause eye damage. I did develop eye damage from it, but it was caught early enough I didnt go blind from it. It can also cause mental health issues-something rarely mentioned.
