OTTAWA (Reuters) -Canadian police on Saturday used pepper spray and stun grenades to try to restore normality to the capital after trucks and demonstrators occupied the downtown core of Ottawa for more than three weeks to protest against pandemic restrictions.

After clearing a portion of the blockade and making more than 100 arrests on Friday, police on Saturday morning moved quickly to disperse the main portion of the blockade in front of parliament and the prime minister's office, making new arrests.

"We told you to leave. We gave you time to leave. We were slow and methodical, yet you were assaultive and aggressive with officers and the horses," police said in a statement to the truckers posted on Twitter.

Mounted Police are used to crowds. RCMP horses only know crowds of fans in their audience when they put on fancy shows.

I wonder what the cops meant about the protesters being assaultive and why they included the horses in that statement. I hope no horses were harmed.

These truck protest supporters are the same ones who wanted laws passed to run over BLM protesters who blocked the roads.

But also, I chuckle because it’s like an obscure scene from the movie “Trading Places” when a bailed-out Eddie Murphy suggests to a police officer bringing in a suspect to “may I suggest you use your nightstick, officer”. I don’t know how the mind works, but trust me. I am Eddie Murphy applauding the Canadian police, it’s the same thing.

It would have taken 50 men on foot to push the crowd up the various streets that converged on the square. There were 6 or 8 mounted cops, and they more or less had their way with the crowd.

"This is our final stand ... When it ends, it ends and it's in God's hands," said Jeremy Glass, a protester from Shelburne, Ontario. "At the end of this, we all need to get back to unity and get rid of this division."

Nah man, I'm pretty sure Candace Owens will still be screaming "STOP talking about Russia" even after your stupid ass is in jail.
