(CNN)Fiona Hill doesn't know whether President Joe Biden can lead Western allies to ward off Russia's threat to Ukraine. But unlike his predecessor, he's trying.
(Snip)
"There's no Team America for Trump," Hill recalled. "Not once did I see him do anything to put America first. Not once. Not for a single second."
It showed in Trump's praise for the authoritarian leader of Russia, an American adversary that had boosted his finances as a business executive. It showed in his reluctance to embrace America's mutual defense commitments to European allies, which for decades have constrained Russian behavior; instead, Trump treated NATO as what Hill called a "protection racket."
Most notoriously, it showed in Trump's attempt to squeeze Ukraine's President for manufactured dirt on Biden to help his 2020 election campaign. He held up American military aid as a political lever as Ukraine faced the long-running Russian military threat that now has the entire world on edge.

(9,986 posts)She was impressive in her grasp of the issues but also in her ability to articulate how damaging Trumps actions were. I know many people believe that Trump will not run again, but I still fear that he will because he sees the presidency as his get-out-of-jail-free card. And if he runs, the state Republicans who have passed so many laws to give themselves power over election results will ensure that he wins in the swing statesjust enough to win the Electoral College. I wish we could get rid of the EC, but no Constitutional amendment is possible at this time, and probably not in my lifetime.

(219 posts)Those who occasion the pages of DU and other progressive/liberal sites know the story and the score full well. We are aware of the tfg's inability to consider any subject other than himself. The sad part is that those who should read Ms. Hill's missive will not and, were they to do so, would not likely understand what she writes. 'I, me, mine' is his favor Beatles tune.

(17,225 posts)wants to invade Ukraine is because they didn't dig up dirt on Biden costing his puppet the election which
lessened his influence (he still has Moscow Mitch) over here in the White House. And I doubt if that is his
#1 reason for wanting to invade Ukraine, just a side benefit in his mind.
