Analysis of more than 30 bottles of wine has found two glasses could be enough to reach the recommended daily sugar limit for adults.
Research by Alcohol Health Alliance UK found some bottles had up to 59g of sugar - more than a glazed doughnut.
An independent laboratory analysed bottles of red, white, rosé, fruit and sparkling wine from popular UK brands.
None of the bottles featured nutritional information on labels as this is currently not required by law

(10,974 posts)It's why I don't drink it. I only do 25-50g carbs a day, so outside of the odd social gathering, not really a thing. 59g of sugar is yikes.
I don't really drink, but if I were of a mind to have one, it'd be a shot of something, maybe in zero calorie mixer, maybe not. Distilled spirits tend to have zero net carbs.

(6,123 posts)It is good to be reminded that carbs can sneak into your diet and can add up. The low carb lifestyle works for many people at keeping triglycerides in a normal range and easing aches and pains by reducing inflammation. My husband improved his joint pain in two weeks by cutting carbs drastically. Dont sabotage your efforts by naively drinking wine without checking the carbs.
