My guess is that any fighting will be over quickly. But then what? Will Ukraine just become part of Russia? Will any sanctions imposed be too much for Russia?
What's your feeling?

(90,301 posts)... em back up like they're gold thrown the middle of the street and eventually Russia economy slows down to a crawl.
US Hit with higher fuel prices starts dumping oil to make up for Russian shortage but by that time oil corps don't want to be greedy (yeah right) and prices lower.
Bottom line, I think the "feel" we'll see is economic and not military but it wont be short seeing Putin has amassed a large rainy day fund.
But what will it be worth if their ruble falls to nothing?
The Russians will work FAUX News and other treason networks to up the concern about inflation here ...
This wont be easy but in the end Putin after getting a bloody nose by the Ukrainians and using more resource than he thought he he needed walks back to Russia with tail between legs.
With his dumb ass

Like at the start of WW1.. All sides thought it was going to be quick... People went with picnic baskets to "view" the first battle of Bull Run in the civil war.. Japan thought after the big hit on Pearl Harbor the US would sue for peace.
What ever happens it's not going to be what "they" expect...
people are gonna die and that just sucks... I hope cooler heads prevail...

The power to turn off the lights and freeze you to death on such a mass scale is just too much power.

(28,918 posts)If he is dumb enough to attack, he may end up with part of Eastern Ukraine but not the entire country. He will lose the EU as trading partner and have to trade with China. Russia will come out weaker in the end and the EU more unified against him. There will probably be terrorist attacks in Moscow. It will be a mess.

(3,635 posts)His actions have freaked out the West (including the previously Putin friendly countries) and it pretty much guarantees exactly what he did not want. Also Ukrainians are resolved to fight to the end and will never accept a Putin puppet gov't.

It won't end fast, unless Putin orders that Ukrainian cities be bombed to rubble before sending in Russian troops. No, this will be a long, bloody slog for the Russians. Once the body bags start coming home to Moscow by the planeloads, I wonder how long the Russian people will support it.
