In summer, Deborah Hartmann hears the lifeguard's announcements at the Wannsee lido from her desk. In winter, there are only the crows above the rippling waves.
"It is the ambivalence of this place, unbelievably beautiful and unbelievably tragic," says Hartmann who runs the House of the Wannsee Conference.
"It's really confusing."

And just think in 2022 there are many villas in the world planning the same today....and there are some people that say history should not be mentioned....

(3,185 posts)As I recall, he made sure to mention that "the Fuhrer" spent time there. Not "Hitler." Not "that genocidal madman." Not "that murderous bastard." Nope, he made sure to call him "the Fuhrer." Very subtle stuff.

(3,313 posts)something so consequential and remorseless as engineering an entire holocaust. It's watching a business meeting we've all been a part of many times, but with a totally different soundtrack of dialog being run concurrently.
I think that's one of the reasons the film is so damned gripping. And really places the following quote by CS Lewis in a more relatable context.
I live in the Managerial Age, in a world of "Admin." The greatest evil is not now done in those sordid "dens of crime" that Dickens loved to paint. It is not done even in concentration camps and labor camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern."
