That's one of the ways the oligarchy makes money. The average citizen may play the market too but they are usually too poor to risk the little money they have. So then the market is mostly flooded by the oligarchs' stolen loot.

At the same time, government money used to help the poor is put into the markets so that oligarchs have a built-in reason to not provide the assistance. Sorry the market went down and now you get to feed your children on $2 a week.

Putin doesn't care about the stock market in his country, he doesn't care about the people either, he is as narcissistic as he pupil and lapdog trump, so whatever Putin thinks is good for Putin, that is what he will do, the hell with the rest of the people.

Not sure if anyone knows, but Lenin used to have the people in his cabinet dance for him, he would play the same record over and over and drive them to exhaustion, I have to think Putin does the same.

I'm surprised that Cramer wasn't suggesting to buy Russian stocks on Friday.

Even if Putin and his flunkies weren't positioned, I wonder if the Russian Exchange would make post-trade adjustments.

But the price of oil increased about 2.5% as it edges towards $100 a barrel. That brings tens of billions of dollars to Russia.

The ruble-backed MOEX Russia Index plunged as much as 14% to close at 3037 on Monday, the lowest since November of 2020 and the steepest daily decrease since March of 2014, amid continued threats of war in Ukraine. [rather grim chart at link]

At these valuations when every last sucker is in, they crash markets to make a buying opportunity for hedge funds. Bagholders at the top, dumpers at the bottom. That's the way markets work.

A very large number of tickers are already below pre-pandemic levels.

Even the "great names" of the US economy are way off their recent highs.

AMZN down 9% in the last year...

GOOG down 14% in the last 3 months

Facebook (Meta) down 25% in a year

Shopify down 54% in a year

Netflix down 29% in a year

TSLA down 23% in the last 3 months

No laundering of Russian cash in Western (US/UK/EU) banks! They can take their blood money and bury in Siberia for all I care. Don't allow them to profit from our economy, and don't allow our banks to help them launder money.

Read Bill Browder's book, "Red Menace" that explains exactly how this Russian crime wave has affected our economy and our political system. They really are a menace, and there's no exaggeration in that title.

I wrote the following note to the NH Liquor and Wine Commission, which runs all liquor and wine outlets in New Hampshire:

In light of the Russian threats to declare war on Ukraine, I'd like to propose that the NH Liquor and Wine Outlets remove all Russian-made products from your shelves. I realize that you are probably not buying directly from Russia and that Russia and Russian companies have already benefitted from your purchases.

If Russia steps back from the abyss, then perhaps the Commission could return those products to the shelves. In the meantime, I think it would be a valuable symbolic move.

Thanks.
