We lived about 5 blocks south, and one very short (because it was curving to an end/beginning into another major) Ave away from The Audobon Ballroom.
I remember hearing about it, and my Mom was sad that it happened. She said she had been moved by (I have no idea [I was 12] what local radio she was listening to) his speeches "he speaks so lovingly (or beautifully) about his people" she said to me. And had been impressed by his speech after returning from Mecca.
So I took my cue from her.
