Not now. Too early to know what the prices will do, but we need to collect that money for what it is used for.

Ask that question again in two weeks. And fill up your tank tomorrow.

It would just encourage the use and burning of fossil fuels, something we really need to discourage. Instead, give a tax break to low income households so that they don’t have to choose between freezing and starving in the winter. A negative income tax for those below the poverty level.

Who suffers? The affluent can afford high gas prices. If we want to protect commuters reduce the payroll tax for those with low to moderate income, a tax return rebate for payroll taxes for those with incomes below three times the poverty level, perhaps. So long as gas prices are high.

People who can afford gas guzzlers and $50,000 pickup trucks can afford gas prices.

Russia holds about $5 billion in US Treasury bonds. They should be voided.

Time to start seizing assets of anything with ties to the Russian government

(Our own debt) if we can just void it at will? This would hurt the US system much worse than Russia.

If the electorate at large sees high gas prices at election time it will not help Democrat's chances at the polls and will help Retrumplicans. Suspending taxes, increasing supply will help reduce fuel prices. But it certainly doesn't help the environment and those voters who have climate as their #1 issue may not vote at all.

In my mind it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Why do you think European drivers buy economical cars and use mass transit?

Once gas gets to $7 a gallon, people will quit buying pickups and big SUV and demand EV.

People need to be weaned off of cheap gasoline. I see SUVs around here that look like ocean liners and pickups that look like they should be entered in the Monster Truck competition.

Before you say not everybody can afford EVs, mostly they can now. And there are much more efficient ICE cars and trucks people could own.

More people are working from home and many poor or low middle income workers use public transportation or ride share etc. Taxes are a fraction of the gasoline prices. We would get more from stopping the gouging and cut back on a little profit for the energy sector. The 'pain' needs to be spread around and not always borne by the working men and women. Wall Street needs to pay its fair share, especially since most of the profits end up in foreign banks.
