... had launched DU in 2001 with as much business savvy, media know-how, and technical expertise as Trump has put behind TRUTH Social under the organizational leadership of Devin Nunez, we all might have been able to start posting here as early as last month!
Congrats to all DUers who, after signing-up twenty-plus years ago on this website, would have reached over 100 posts by now!

I didnt know thats what Pravda meant

(22,363 posts)Pravda is the Russian word for truth and there is was also a newspaper in Soviet times called Izvestiya which is the Russian word for information. The joke was: There is no truth in Izvestiya and there is no information in Pravda.

(1,524 posts)With all the technical brilliance that's out there, with all the models to copy from, why can't Trump and Nunes get it right from the start?
Oh, wait . . . silly me . . . this is Trump and Nunes we are talking about.

(8,818 posts)of a past Republican governor of Colorado who was beyond incredibly stupid, and totally incompetent at even running a koolAid stand.
He soooo much wanted to be in W Bush's washington circle, he would grovel and do anything Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld asked......
He finally was thrown out by Republicans (and his wife) when he had his second out of wedlock child by two different women.....
If I am not mistaken, and as I remember things:
Our State DMV computer system was antiquated. So, as was typical of him, he awarded a huge contract for a whole new system.
I think he gave it to a couple of kids of some of his cronies or Donors who knew nothing about computers, data bases, etc etc.
They immediately ran out, first thing, and bought like 100 millions of dollars of computers, etc then spent five years of the Taxpayers money to try and muddle something together in the way of software. Anyway, that Governor left office, never to be heard from again and a seriously qualified group was hired to salvage what they could. Evidently, nothing the kids had done translated into the software needed to run any computers, much less data base software, and the computers that were now five years old were the wrong ones needed and worthless because of their age....
I certainly hope Trump and Nunes have the same luck as the former Colorado Republican Governor and his cronies' kids.........

(391 posts)I lived in LA (Westwood) at the time, and actually worked as an election volunteer in that most famous of Presidential elections. And as we all know and remember so well, things got pretty weird after that.
Of course, that diarrhea blast of history (the "W" years) was just practice for the Orange goon.
Anyway, this post is about the experience of my first actual contact with Democrats, true liberals, and other fact-based, enlightened seekers of truth, justice, peace on Earth and good will toward all human beings. How wonderful and life-affirming it has been to meet here with all of you daily for all these years.
Democratic Underground gave me hope, and confidence, and a sense of calm knowing others were seeing the same thing I was. DU was like finding a stream in the desert for a wandering soul on the verge of collapse. I have been a dedicated DU'er since then, logging on multiple times each and every day, of each and every week, of each and every year.
I love DU and all DU'ers, even the ones I have disagreed with, because we are all imperfect and just trying to make sense of this world while we have the chance. But we stick to facts, and we cherish reason and science, and I believe we share a profound love for life and for truth and it is our nature to demonstrate respect and acceptance for all human beings.
Long Live DU!

(27,814 posts)... I wonder why Gore didn't just declare himself the winner and be done with it.
It was a contested election and, according to the Republicans nowadays, VP Gore would have been well within his rights to decide the outcome on his own.

(238 posts)Since near the beginning. A co-worker at the time introduced me to the site. I was 20 years younger, not sure of my political beliefs, and then this opened my eyes. And to think I thought things couldn't get much worse than the W administration, or that someone would come along that is without doubt the worst president we've ever had, somehow topping Bush #2...
I miss Bob Bodelang (sorry, butchered spelling).

Jaded too, but still more liberal.

Horseshit matters, too.
You couldn't write these characters as fiction. There's a limit how much readers can suspend their disbelief without tossing the text aside as ridiculous.
But here we are with a rogue's gallery of unbelievable mooks. LOL.

We've watched a lot of wackiness unfold here. I reckon I'll see about another 20 years' worth before I leave.

(3,469 posts)I had lurked for a long time but was afraid to sign up because back then (2004) everyone thought all newbies were Freeper trolls. One night, I was watching Elizabeth at a town hall and someone mentioned DU to her. She got the best, most mischievous smile on her face in response. I came to DU to see what people were saying and there was a thread about how she should do her hair differently. I signed up just to post that I thought she looked beautiful.
I miss Elizabeth. 😢

(51,129 posts)I was doing the daily:
-- Media article links from Nov. 2004 to April 2005 --
Some media outlet links expire, so, rather than maintain links,
I've zipped all the Headline HTML files in a single folder:
Download 2004 Election Fraud, Irregularity, and Reform Headlines archive.zip
and DU came to my attention via my searches. This eventually became a feature of DU, a discussion group.
