We need to understand that communism is NOT the goal of Putinism. He's happy now just being the world's wealthiest autocrat. It suits him just fine. If the country went back to communism he'd have to give up all (or most) of his wealth and special privileges.

The current interest in Ukraine has to do with Putin's claim that certain Ukrainians would "prefer" to be part of Russia, and that remains to be proven. How can they possibly have a democratic election in Ukraine when Russian weapons are aimed right at them?

Other former Soviet countries that are now independent have made it perfectly clear that they will never join any Russian "federation." That's why so many of them have joined NATO or they've applied for admission to NATO.

This should speak volumes to ANYONE with half a brain. If these countries really wanted to be part of Russia or closely aligned with Russia, they wouldn't need Russian troops in them.
