Axios: Democrats tune out national news during Biden era

A new poll from Gallup and the Knight Foundation finds that younger Democrats are driving a huge decline in national news consumption in the U.S.

Why it matters: It marks the first time since the study began in early 2018 that Democrats report having less interest in national news than Republicans and independents.

Details: While respondents across the political spectrum all reported a decline in interest in national news over the past year, Democrats' interest has declined the most, with just 34% saying they paid a great deal of attention to national news in 2021, compared to 69% in November 2020.

The decline among Democrats ages 18-34 is staggering. Roughly a quarter (24%) said they paid a great deal of attention to national news in 2021, compared to 70% in November 2020. Those ages 35-54 also tuned out significantly.

Independents that lean Democrat are also paying less attention to national news than Independents that lean Republican, the survey found.

is so disgusted with the Republican Party and the wackos and thugs that run it, they will never vote for any candidate with an R after his/her name...they've had it with the 24/7 Trump burp and fart breaking news...they're done with his lies, depravity, stupidity, hate, insults, threats, his penchant for nazis, oligarchs, dictators...he downplayed the pandemic and upended their lives...they saw their grandparents, parents, and friends suffer and die because of Trump's malignant disregard for human life...they don't trust the judicial system, particularly the right-leaning Supreme Court...and because the MSM has devoted incalculable hours of air time and print "normalizing" Trump, his enablers, sycophants, and cult followers they're blind to a whole generation of twenty somethings who have literally tuned them out...

They don't trust the mainstream media to tell them the truth and largely see CNN as no better than Fox and only a small step above things like OAN.

in 2018, so they may have been sick of hearing about tfg ALL the time and of all his criminal activity. Unfortunately I think they lost them and they aren’t coming back. M$M still talk about him every day-sick of it myself.

like, living wages, health care, and addressing climate change before it's too late are "wanting a pony" and "not possible".

Plus, they are smart enough to see that the media is almost entirely slanted in favor of chaos, or rather, Republicans and their minions.

After 4 years of being glued to the TV and internet wondering WHAT THE HECK IS TRUMP DOING/SAYING NOW? We can relax and pay less attention. The other side is paying attention because they believe psycho shit that keeps them in Panic mode.
Let it get closer to election day

Perhaps we've discovered, particularly during and post-Trump, that the media does not have the Democrats' best interests at heart. By promoting bothsiderism and ignoring to a large extent the blatant obfuscation and misdirection of the right, the MSM has effectively carried the Republicans' water (whilst being condemned as being atrocious waterboys by politicians and their constituencies the whole time).

I stopped watching the news after the way they covered the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Also lost interest in the news after BBB failed.

I still get my news from YouTube shows like TYT, The Nomiki Show, and The Majority Report.

The NY prosecutor, the Georgia prosecutor, the January 6th committee and the National Archives.
The DOJ seems to be AWOL. It is depressing.

Good to know!

Okay, in reality, in my case, biases have been shown, and way too much coverage of THEIR HORSESHIT, is perhaps why others have also tuned out?

Beating a dead horse on the daily just gets to be too much and not worth it, when most days, simple headlines would do, and more useless stress, don't need?

on DU than any other source I can think of. Did the survey count looking at websites like this as watching news? Since I've been here I feel more informed and I'm watching TV news less.
