Having spent time in Mississippi in both the 1960's and the last decade I see a huge difference. One thing you have to realize about the Red States is that the people are only human. The big difference is that they are subjected to a non-stop Republican propaganda machine. The newspapers, the radio and the television are all at it 24-7. Even in the sixties not all white people were racists assholes and there were quite a few that were kind.
