the shells still had their tailfins intact. Wonder if they have defective bombs?

There will always be duds. But exploded ordnance can still leave them intact. Casings aren't entirely destroyed when they explode. Its entirely possible for the rear portion of a bomb or missile to still be mostly intact after detonation.

know the difference between civilian and military targets. But even defective bombs and
missiles cause damage and death.
