(4,737 posts)Yeah, it would be set off so high in the atmosphere that it would cause no direct ground damage, but it's still firing a goddamned nuclear weapon and would...not end well.

(146,255 posts)cannot be produced with any technology other than Nuclear weapons, so nobody's "working on" it. Both sides know how to generate a massive EMP. If that happens, we are in deep, deep shit, though.
I suggest that you be careful about what you suggest, particularly if you don't understand enough about it to spell what it's called. Not going to happen.

(146,255 posts)That was not my point at all. You proposed something you did not understand, and got corrected for that. As always on DU, there are people here who do understand those things. That's why I proposed being more careful with your proposals and checking them out a little before making them.
You're rolling on the floor, laughing. That's pretty funny, all by itself, I think.

I think it's okay to dream. Throw ideas out there. Fifty years from now we might have weapons that can shut down the electric grid to cities without doing harm to the populace. Everything is possible.

Such an attack would certainly be interpreted as the equivalent of being struck by multiple nuclear bombs, and they would retaliate in kind.

(58,785 posts)that freezing to death is possible, and Russian winters are notorious for that. The OP didn't mention the population of Moscow, though, so I just looked: over 12.6 M, perhaps 2.5 M under 15.
I'm thinking that these days we all need to be more careful about what we say for fear of inadvertently feeding the "rough beast, its hour come round at last..."
