Nothing violent. I just wish Moscow was hit with a huge EMT. (Original Post) Baitball Blogger Feb 2022 OP
EMP? (Electro Magnetic Pulse)? lagomorph777 Feb 2022 #1
Yeah, that. Baitball Blogger Feb 2022 #2
Actually, there's no way to produce that EMP that isn't hugely violent. MineralMan Feb 2022 #3

Yeah, it would be set off so high in the atmosphere that it would cause no direct ground damage, but it's still firing a goddamned nuclear weapon and would...not end well.

cannot be produced with any technology other than Nuclear weapons, so nobody's "working on" it. Both sides know how to generate a massive EMP. If that happens, we are in deep, deep shit, though.

I suggest that you be careful about what you suggest, particularly if you don't understand enough about it to spell what it's called. Not going to happen.

That was not my point at all. You proposed something you did not understand, and got corrected for that. As always on DU, there are people here who do understand those things. That's why I proposed being more careful with your proposals and checking them out a little before making them.

You're rolling on the floor, laughing. That's pretty funny, all by itself, I think.

life. Think about the things on Star Trek that were hatched out of someone's imagination that are now available at Best Buy.

I think it's okay to dream. Throw ideas out there. Fifty years from now we might have weapons that can shut down the electric grid to cities without doing harm to the populace. Everything is possible.

While our communicators are better than Captain Kirk's, we're not going to travel faster than light. The universe enforces that limit rather strongly.

them back to the 19th Century, but without 19th Century infrastructure.

Such an attack would certainly be interpreted as the equivalent of being struck by multiple nuclear bombs, and they would retaliate in kind.

that freezing to death is possible, and Russian winters are notorious for that. The OP didn't mention the population of Moscow, though, so I just looked: over 12.6 M, perhaps 2.5 M under 15.

I'm thinking that these days we all need to be more careful about what we say for fear of inadvertently feeding the "rough beast, its hour come round at last..."
