The Republicans are killing their mid-term election chances.

I live in a predominantly Polish neighborhood, most of them are immigrants, some native born Polish-American. They tend to support the GOP on social policy and economic policy. But since Putin started breathing threats against Ukraine, the mood has changed. The discussion at a birthday party last night was, among this group, surprisingly critical of Trump, openly saying that if the Republicans had done their job, he'd have been impeached and out and this wouldn't be happening if Putin didn't think he had the ability to divide the United States.

I don't know if other Eastern European immigrant groups feel the same way, but the Polish constituency is huge in several battleground states, Michigan and Ohio in particular. Lots of Ukrainians in Indiana.

On World events - and a different relationship to how those events/current events might affect them.

Americans have the luxury of never having experienced war - and the damage that is does both materially, emotionally, and physically (unless a solder, medical person, or someone in a direct support role) - so it’s mostly antidotal our views of conflicts.

I suspect that while our dear neighbors might have supported the GOP - they probably have not only a situational awareness but also a historical perspective on how this might get out of hand.

Good luck to our neighbors in your neighborhood.

Except maybe Trump, but the real issue here is the atrocities and their coverage. Putin is committing war crimes and attacks against civilian targets. Republicans cannot express their love of Putin enough, that's going to bite them.

the US, he had to know that waiting to invade Ukraine during a Democratic Administration would further divide the country.

The people who oppose Biden would move farther to the right and more closely align themselves with Putin in order to escalate their attacks on Biden.

We have seen this recently with Trump, some of his former advisors, Republican politicians, the RNC, Fox News and other conservative media having focused their ire on Biden, which in effect takes the focus off Putin. Of course those who support Trump will and have followed his lead by blaming the invasion not on Putin and Russia but on the current administration.

If Trump won in 2020, Putin would have overrun Ukraine months ago and Trump would have given him some kind of hero's welcome in the White House.

In the long run, it likely won't make a difference. Putin is hell-bent on killing Ukraine and Ukrainians. War is about killing and destruction. That's what Putin wants, and that's why Trump believes that Putin is a genius. Mass killing is a sign of a genius at work, right? This is how Trump thinks, and HE is running the GOP.

Drawing a conclusion based on what you heard at a birthday party. A family member of mine living in NC was absolutely certain NC would reject Trump based on "what she was hearing around town and from everyone she knows." In the scheme of things, our personal worlds are very very small.

as we speak. Just 2 weeks ago FQX was promoting Russian's right to invade Ukraine and IQ4.5 joined in
praising his comrade Putin. They're busy today figuring out how to spin their past comments.

Relying on their past BS of fake news, you misunderstood me, or I was only joking will not work this time.
They fully aligned themselves with the enemy of mankind and a lot of trumpers ate it up.

Meanwhile, in the coming days/weeks repugs will be putting themselves into 2 camps rallying around our
current President or the former one. They will be losing some of their voters because they are getting
disillusioned with their party's politics. Plus it helps that Biden will be a good Commander-in-Chief.

is trot out the latest shiny object. If the idea that Mexicans are taking your jobs does't work, they'll say that Biden want's to turn your children into homosexuals. If that doesn't gain ground, they will say that poor black people are going to steal your car and date your daughter. Or that Pelosi wants boys to use the girls bathroom. Or that school libraries are making children read pornography.

Truth doesn't matter. The top have learned that people who have fallen for republican lies in the past can be counted on to knee jerk to whatever crap they make up again and again.

Sigh.
