No excuses.
No "mentally ill," no "Bad parenting," no "Bad neighborhood."
This guy decided to be a thug, and now he's going to be in jail for 15 years.
I would have sentenced him to 25.
Judge sentences 'most wanted' car thief to more prison time than recommended
Lazarion Gaillard, 20, inked to stealing dozens of cars since 2019
MILWAUKEE
One of Milwaukee's most wanted car thieves will spend the next 15 years in prison.
His crimes were caught on cameras across Milwaukee County.
From stealing luxury cars from driveways to breaking into homes, police chases, and in one case, 20-year-old Lazarion Gaillard stole a car with a 4-year-old and left the kid in a yard.
It's why Milwaukee police considered him their most wanted car thief.
"This man treats victimizing people like a job. This defendant is basically a one-man crime spree," prosecutor Kenneth Olstinski said.
Wednesday during his sentencing for 17 felonies following a plea deal, Gaillard apologized.
"I would like to say I apologize for everything that I did, and I take full responsibility," he said.
But the judge didn't buy it.
"Nobody goes into someone else's home," Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Jean Kies said.
Coming down harsh on the 20-year-old linked to stealing dozens of cars since 2019.
"Mr. Gaillard, you have engaged in a crime spree that I am astonished by," Kies said.
The judge highlighted Gaillard's role in Milwaukee's stolen car epidemic.
"I guess what I am saying to you is you are part of the problem in our community. You are representative of many young men who choose to engage in this sort of criminality, but you've been caught now, so you are here," Kies said.
The judge sentenced Gaillard to 15 years in prison, which is more than what prosecutors recommended, calling his crime spree unforgivable.

(46,318 posts)I'd be willing to bet that this guy gets out on parole in 5 years, and goes right back to stealing cars and breaking into peoples' houses.
It would most likely be a sure bet.

(33,310 posts)But also not guaranteed.
I actually know a few convicts. One is a bank robber who has walked the straight and narrow since leaving prison. Of course, he only robbed 1 bank...

(46,318 posts)This guy in the OP is only 20, yet he's stolen cars over and over and over.
He likes doing it, and the fear is pretty much gone.

(33,310 posts)Deterrence. 15 years cooling your heels is supposed to deter you from doing it.
Another is Incapacitation - 15 years where he CAN'T steal cars.
